How do you take a subject like accident prevention and management and turn it into fun?

Call it the SSI Stress and Rescue Specialty program! The SSI Stress and Rescue Specialty will expand your knowledge and experience beyond purely recreational level because you’ll learn to look beyond yourself and consider the safety and well being of other divers. Although this course is serious, it is an enjoyable way to build your confidence.

What do I need to start?

  • SSI Open Water Diver (or qualifying certification from another organization
  • Minimum age: 15 years old
  • Successful completion of a sanctioned CPR & First Aid program within the past 24 months (we can offer you the SSI React Right Course)
  • Virtually anyone who is in good health, reasonably fit, and comfortable in the water can participate in the SSI Stress and Rescue Specialty Course

  • If the participant answers yes to any of the medical questions listed then a signed clearance from a doctor, valid within 12 months will be required

What will I do?

Rescue Diver training will prepare you to prevent problems and, if necessary, manage dive emergencies. During the five open water sessions, you’ll cover:

  • Dive first aid
  • Emergency management and equipment
  • Swimming and non-swimming assists
  • Panicked diver response
  • Underwater problems
  • Missing diver procedures
  • Surfacing the unconscious diver
  • In water artificial respiration
  • Egress (exits)
  • First aid procedures for pressure related accidents
  • Dive accident scenarios

How long will it take?

  • Minimum Open Water Training: five sessions over two days

We generally prefer to conduct our courses over a relaxed 3 days schedule, however if you also need to complete the ‘React Right’ First Aid Course in conjunction with the SSI Stress and Rescue Specialty Course then we run the program over 4 days.

What will I need?

  • A sense of Adventure !

Start React Right in the classroom with the DVD and Little Annie before moving on to your next level of diver training with the Stress / Rescue academics and knowledge development session.

Day One Itinerary:

09:00 – 12:00 React Right Classroom Session
12:30 – 13:30 Break time
14:00 – 17:00 Diver Stress / Rescue Classroom Session

Day Two Itinerary:

09:00 – 12:00 Self Rescue Review and Rescue Exercises in Confined Water
12:30 – 13:30 Break time
14:00 – 17:00 Rescue Exercise Practice in Open Water

Day Three Itinerary (times vary depending on diving location):

10:00 Boat Departs from Mae Haad, Koh Tao
10:30 Arrival at your first diving location
11:00 – 12:00 Scenario Three and Four
12:00 – 13:30 Break time
13:30 – 14:30 Scenario Three and Four
15:00 Journey back and arrival in Koh Tao

React Right First Aid Course

The ‘React Right’ course gives a rounded understanding in providing first aid in everyday situations and is the first step before moving on to your next level of diver training with the Stress / Rescue Diver.

Why ‘React Right’ First Aid Course?

‘React Right’ gives you the tools you need to perform CPR and First Aid. Whether you’re a diver or a non-diver, ‘React Right’ prepares you to properly handle potentially life-threatening situations.

What do I need to start?

  • No dive certification required
  • No minimum age limit

What will I do?

This comprehensive program is composed of two core modules that can be taught in tandem or as stand-alone courses: Emergency First Response – Primary Care and Emergency First Response – Secondary Care. Together, these courses proved extensive instruction in CPR and First Aid, as well as providing optional (yet recommended) Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and Emergency Oxygen sections.
